Owens Corning Attic Insulation: The Palmdale Owner’s Guide

If you’re searching for Owens Corning attic insulation in Palmdale, here’s the straight answer: Warmline Insulation Co. stocks and installs Owens Corning fiberglass batts and blown-in AttiCat systems, with most Palmdale homes running $1,800 to $4,200 installed depending on square footage and current R-value. We keep material on our trucks and complete most jobs in a single visit. Homeowners usually find us after their summer electric bill hits $600, or after they’ve climbed into the attic in August and found the existing insulation compressed to half its original depth, brittle, or scattered thin by years of desert wind working through the eaves.

We’re an independent insulation contractor, not affiliated with Owens Corning directly. But we install their products daily because they hold up to Antelope Valley conditions better than most.

Which Owens Corning Models This Applies To

Owens Corning makes two attic insulation lines we work with regularly: the Pink Fiberglas batt family (R-30 and R-38 are the common Palmdale sizes) and the AttiCat blown-in system, which uses AttiCat Pink blown-in fiberglass and the AttiCat expanding-blowing machine. If your attic has pink batts with an Owens Corning label still stapled to the facing, you’re almost certainly looking at R-30 or R-38 from either the EcoTouch or older Classic lines. If you’ve got loose fill, the AttiCat bag labels are white with pink stripes and list the required machine settings.

One compatibility gotcha we see often in Palmdale homes built in the 80s and 90s: original batts were R-19 in many production builds, and California’s Title 24 now requires R-30 minimum for attics in our climate zone. You can’t simply lay new batts over degraded ones and call it done. The old facing traps moisture, and new unfaced batts over faced existing ones create a vapor barrier sandwich that holds condensation against your ceiling drywall. AttiCat blown-in can go directly over old batts or loose fill, which is why we recommend it for most Palmdale retrofits. You get clean coverage without tearing out everything first.

Signs Your Owens Corning Attic Insulation Is Failing

  • Downstairs is comfortable, upstairs stays 10-15 degrees hotter. Heat rises and sits in your attic. If the insulation has slumped, compressed, or been blown thin at the eaves, that heat radiates through the ceiling. In Palmdale summers where attics hit 140°F plus, diminishing insulation turns your upstairs bedrooms into ovens.
  • Your cooling bill keeps climbing while your AC is running fine. Before you replace a compressor, check the attic. Under insulated homes make the HVAC run continuously. We’ve done Palmdale attic retrofits where the homeowner’s next utility bill dropped 30% without touching the AC unit.
  • You can see the ceiling joists from the attic floor. Batts should rise above the joist tops. If joists are visible, your insulation is under strength. Blown-in should be even and fluffy, not flattened like a walking path.
  • Rodent or insect activity in the attic. Rats and mice tunnel through fiberglass, urinate on it, and compress it into mats. If you’re hearing scratching overhead or finding droppings around the hatch, the insulation is compromised and should be removed and replaced.
  • The attic smells musty or the insulation feels damp. Palmdale gets less rain than most of California, but condensation from unsealed can lights and bath fans still finds its way in. Once fiberglass gets wet, its R-value collapses and it needs to come out.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s the pricing picture for Palmdale, straight from our last several months of jobs:

  • Blown-in AttiCat over existing insulation (R-38 total): $2,200 to $3,800 typical for a 1,500 to 2,400 square foot home.
  • Full removal of damaged insulation plus new AttiCat blown-in (R-38): $3,200 to $4,800 depending on access and debris.
  • Owens Corning R-38 batts installed over rafter-deck in a small section or repair area: $450 to $900 per 250 square feet.

That includes material, labor, air sealing around the attic floor penetrations (light boxes, wire chases, bathroom fans), and haul-away of old material if removal is part of the scope. What drives the range is attic access: a tight scuttle hole or low-slope roof over part of the space slows the crew down. A full open attic with headroom sits at the bottom of the range. Every Palmdale quote is upfront, fixed before we start, and covered by our 90-Day Done Right Promise. If it’s not done right, we make it right, no invoice fight.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely do a few things yourself before we arrive: check the hatch for a tight seal, look for daylight at the eaves, and run a tape measure across the attic floor to see your current insulation depth. Fourteen inches of blown-in or batts rising above a 2×10 joist means you’re close to R-38 already. Less than that and you’re paying to cool the sky.

Where DIY goes wrong in Palmdale attics is compression and gaps. Fiberglass only reaches its rated R-value when it’s installed at full loft, never squashed under storage platforms or walked flat. And blown-in without proper air sealing first is like pouring water into a bucket with holes. The insulation does its job only if the air leaks through the ceiling are plugged first. If you want it checked by someone who’s done this in Rancho Vista, Quartz Hill, and west Palmdale for years, call Neil and the crew at (661) 613-2043. A live person answers.
